The season is winding down and suddenly we are getting into our Saturday games. We have a bunch of teams that can clinch playoff spots this week, and a few teams that can join the ranks of the eliminated. Let’s see how this plays out, on to the picks!
LA at SEA Thursday 7:25 PM CST NBC
This is simple, Los Angeles fired Fischer on Monday. The Seahawks got embarrassed on Sunday. This game is at Seattle where the Seahawks play better and the Rams have won three of the last four in this series. All of this points to the Seahawks winning big, but Thursday night has not been about points this year, until now.
Seahawks 35 Rams 10
MIA at NYJ Saturday 7:25 PM CST NFLN
Our first Saturday matchup of the year. The Jets are at the end of one of their more disappointing seasons in a while. They had high hopes, but have just not lived up to them. The Dolphins are fighting for the last playoff spot, and win here would go a long way in helping their chances. Even with a backup quarterback, this is their game to lose.
Dolphins 24 Jets 14
GB at CHI Sunday Noon CST FOX
This could be a trap game for Green Bay. Chicago played tough for a while and costly penalties down the stretch kept them from getting back into the Lions game last week. Green Bay also has two tough games to finish out with after this, and the weather will not be helping much. That being said, they will keep a level head and keep marching into the playoffs. Side note, this will get this series back to even with a Packer’s win.
Packers 24 Bears 21
TEN at KC Noon CST CBS – LOCK PICK OF THE WEEK
Big win last week for Tennessee, but now they go on the road to a tough Arrowhead stadium. They are facing a much tough team in the Chiefs who also have an extra few days of rest after the Thursday night match last week. The AFC West championship is also still on the line. Look for the Chiefs to continue showing why they are on top there.
Chiefs 28 Titans 17
DET at NYG Noon CST FOX
The injury to Stafford is going to hurt them down the stretch. Now they are back outside against a red hot Giants team looking to make their own playoff push. Of the three games remaining for the Lions, this is arguably the easiest one left, and it will not be that easy. Look for the weather and the sore hand to play a factor in this Lion’s loss.
Giants 31 Lions 17
CLE at BUF Noon CST CBS
While technically not eliminated, the Bills have no control over their own destiny anymore. It will not take much for them to be removed from the playoff picture. As far was the Browns, even in a rivalry they showed no life. This team is ready to fold and get into 2017, and it shows again this week.
Bills 28 Browns 10
IND at MIN Noon CST CBS – UPSET PICK OF THE WEEK
Yes, last week I also had the Vikings getting upset, but this week is different. They have struggled since their hot start, and the Colts are getting hotter at the right time. Even with the good defense that the Vikings have, the Colts offense will move the ball and put up points on the board. Couple that with the only strength of the Colt’s defense being their defensive line, this could all but knock the Vikings from playoff contention.
Colts 28 Vikings 21
PHI at BAL Noon CST FOX
Another team that is not eliminated but has little shot to make the playoffs, the Eagles. Like the Vikings, they had started strong, and was the first team to get the Vikings on their downward trend, but their season has not gone that well since then. They face a Raven’s team with their own backs against the wall with the Steelers coming up hot at the end. Baltimore gets the big win here effectively ending the Eagle’s season again.
Ravens 24 Eagles 21
JAX at HOU Noon CST CBS
Yeah, Jacksonville, I’m done picking you for an upset. The Houston defense is too good and you are going to turn the ball over at least three times today. Then your defense will not be able to stop Lamar Miller or any running back for that matter. You lose:
Texans 28 Jaguars 24
PIT at CIN Noon CST CBS
Oh, this rivalry again. The Bengals are on the cusp of being eliminated from playoff contention and the Steelers are hot right now, but anything goes in this game. We know there will be hard hitting and probably a few cheap shots in the game, but the Steelers are the better team and that will show in the end.
Steelers 24 Bengals 21
NO at ARI 3:05 PM CST FOX
What do you make of these two teams? The Cardinals are a mess, and the Saints, per usual, cannot win outside of a dome. Good news for Brees, this is a dome, and the Cardinals defense is not nearly as good as it used to be. Give me Brees lighting up the air in this one.
Saints 35 Cardinals 31
SF at ATL 3:05 PM CST FOX
San Francisco, the only team to lose my lock pick of the week. I will not forgive you and the 2,000 fans that had to watch you lose that one. Remember, last week Atlanta destroyed the Rams, at the Rams, guess what they get to do today?
Falcons 38 49ers 15
NE at DEN 3:25 PM CST CBS
This rivalry just won’t feel the same Sunday afternoon. No Manning to try and outduel Brady, and the offense for the Broncos is so sluggish this will not be a contest. Brady puts up big numbers against the no fly zone, and the Broncos cannot keep up.
Patriots 28 Broncos 7
OAK at SD 3:25 PM CST CBS
Oakland had the west for their taking, and not they will have to fight the last three weeks to get it back. Good news, they are a better team than the Chargers, and should be able to outplay them even on the road. San Diego, are you really going to let the Chargers join up with the Rams?
Raiders 24 Chargers 20
TB at DAL 7:30 PM CST NBC
With a falter, would this be the end of Dak for the year? He could be hitting the rookie wall, but at the same time, he played against two very tough defenses the last few weeks. Tampa has another top defense, which could make this one of the better Sunday night games we have seen in a while. Dak will get it done and show why he is the future of the Cowboys.
Cowboys 28 Buccaneers 21
CAR at WAS Monday 7:30 PM CST ESPN
The Panthers this year are the complete definition of a Super Bowl hangover. They were never able to get traction as the season went on and are looking at elimination. The Redskins are still fighting hard to make sure their hold on the wildcard does not slip. The Panthers will come out to win and get it done in Washington Monday night.
Panthers 31 Redskins 28
NFC: Rams, Bear, 49ers
AFC: Jets, Jaguars, Browns
With the playoff push coming quick, after this week we should be down to just a few teams left fighting for those twelve spots. This makes for an exciting time of year. Where has this season gone? Too quick, that is for sure. Well, until next week –
